Against the backdrop of the massively successful Rise For Sport campaign, this summer has also been a hive of activity for our behind-the-scenes work. After being named a preferred construction partner by the England and Wales Cricket Board in 2022, 2023 has seen us bowl our first over in the cricketing world, completing 4 very different jobs for 4 First Class County sides.
“These first four projects for cricket are hugely important,” said Pat McMahon, Director of RISE Adaptations. “As part of the #RiseForSport campaign, we want to see a Changing Places toilet in every single UK sports venue. It’s really encouraging to see top-flight teams setting an example and making the investment in the futures of disabled people up and down the UK.”
Since being named a preferred construction contractor by the ECB, RISE has worked hard with a number of different teams to determine where to site Changing Places to have the biggest possible impact. After hundreds of hours of research and feasibility studies, we settled on four projects as part of a first wave of works designed to make cricket more accessible and welcome to everyone who wished to participate.
At Leicestershire County Cricket Club, we installed a modular Changing Places toilet and traditionally constructed multifaith space, helping them achieve the goals set out in their comprehensive EDI Plan.
For Kent Cricket, we installed a fully-specced modular CPT with a traditional accessible toilet attached, plus an entirely custom-fabricated accessible viewing platform – a first for us, but a roaring success.
At Gloucestershire CCC, we installed two pods – a CPT plus accessible toilet, and a large, customised modular build to house a bespoke multifaith space, another first for our expert factory team. Cracking work!
Finally, at Durham CCC, we installed a modular CPT in a very tricky spot – nestled in under an existing spectator stand! Never ones to shy away from a challenge, we put ourselves into bat. Check out the link to see the results!
These are just four of the dozens of jobs we’ve completed this year. With some under construction and embargo, we’ve got a lot to be excited about!
As the #RiseForSport campaign rumbles on, we expect more and more wins like this one in cricket to emerge. As the cause gathers signatures and starts to build a name for itself in the sector, more and more decisionmakers will sit up and take notice, bringing us closer and closer to our goal.
The aim of the campaign will always be to change legislation to make Changing Places mandatory in every UK sports venue – but, until we can achieve that, we’ll take wins where we can! Anything we can do to improve the lives and prospects for disabled people and their families is worth pursuing as part of that wider push – so if you know of a project that needs funding, want a CPT at your club or know someone who could benefit from one, talk to us: hello@riseadapt.co.uk.
